Plasma Treatment

Platelet Rich (PRP)

Hair biostimulation with growth factors
This treatment is carried out by obtaining blood from the patient to extract the growth factors that platelets have. These platelets are activated and injected into the scalp where they work for up to 6 months.

At HairDoctors we offer this treatment as an adjunctive therapy to transplantation or as an isolated treatment.

  • Indications
Indications

Platelets are fragments of blood cells that help in the clotting process and are also a natural source of multiple growth factors. When platelets are activated by a specific stimulus, they release these growth factors. It is a treatment without risk of disease transmission, since it is your own blood (autologous).

It is used as a complement in hair transplant surgery because:

  • In the donor area it makes scars less visible
  • Stimulates capillary regeneration (angiogenesis or new capillaries and regulates the release of factors from other cells)
  • Prolongs the anagen or growth phase of the hair follicle
  • Doubles the speed of hair growth
  • Stimulates the growth of collagen which increases the caliber of the hair fiber
  • Intensifies hair color
  • Increases hair density in treated areas
  • It has been tested in many other medical specialties showing statistically significant results: cardiac surgery, oral surgery, reconstructive surgeries, orthopedics for tendon fractures and injuries, burns, skin ulcers among others.
  • Accelerates the healing process (stimulates mitogenesis by increasing the number of cells involved in tissue repair).
  • Lowers the risk of infection
  • Increase the percentage of graft survival
  • It shortens the period of rest of the follicle, accelerating the repopulation of the sown area
  • It is the only treatment that controls active hair loss in a short time. The changes begin to be noticed between weeks 6 and 12.
  • Hair will look shinier, better colored, and thicker. These results improve even more if the treatment is repeated periodically
  • The procedure and results are the same in men and women.

WHAT DOES THE PRP TREATMENT CONSIST OF?

The platelet-rich plasma or PRP technique, also called “biostimulation with autologous plasma rich in growth factors”, consists of centrifuging the blood to separate the liquid part (plasma) from the “solid” part of the cells. The application of the patient’s own platelet-rich plasma fraction in a tissue favors its regeneration and stimulates its growth.

Steps:
  1. The initial step is to draw blood from the patient himself, in the same way that a blood test is obtained routinely, with a simple puncture of a vein.
  2. Subsequently, the extracted blood is centrifuged to separate the platelet-rich plasma fraction from the rest of the parts of the blood that are not of interest to us.
  3. Having isolated platelet-rich plasma (PRP), it must be activated by the application of calcium chloride, so that the platelets release growth factors.
  4. After that, the solution made up of the PRP and the growth factors is aspirated with a small syringe and infiltrated by micro injections in the area to be treated.

The whole process lasts about 30 minutes, and the infiltration of PRP and growth factors in the area to be treated is not very painful. However, the discomfort can be further alleviated by previously applying topical anesthetic. The treatment does not require any prior preparation, and after the procedure the patient can lead a normal life, not requiring rest or any special measures.

IS IT A SAFE PROCEDURE?

Plasma rich in growth factors began as one of the newest regenerative tools in medicine and cosmetic surgery around the 80s, being used in anti-aging mesotherapy or as an effective repair of acne marks and stretch marks.

It is a completely safe procedure, since the PRP and the growth factors used are autologous, that is, from the patient himself (blood is drawn from the patient to later apply a part of his own blood rich in growth factors). The growth factors are specific for the tissues of each individual, which makes this system a personalized treatment, avoiding the risk of infections or allergic reactions and without contraindications.

The treatment is fully compatible with other treatments for alopecia such as MINOXIDIL or FINASTERIDE.

TECHNIQUE

To obtain (PRP) we perform the blood extraction and centrifugation of the blood for about 8 minutes.

Subsequently, the plasma is separated into three fractions of which we will take 1 cc immediately above the red series, which is the fraction richest in platelets and Growth Factors (FC).

There are several types of FC and all of them are endogenous mediators that modify cellular responses to a certain stimulus and control the cell cycle. They are capable of increasing cell metabolism by stimulating tissue regeneration and healing. They stimulate the synthesis of collagen, elastin and proteoglycans. They have an important antigenic activity.

In the treatment of alopecia we will use PRP injected intradermally or subdermally. With consecutive sessions of infiltrations, it is possible to accelerate and improve the natural process of tissue repair, including the hair follicles. New blood vessels are gradually formed and the anabolic functions of the cells are reactivated with the consequent increase in the production of elastin and collagen. It is recommended to perform one session every 15 days (3) and then one every three to six months for maintenance.
